Pvt Walter E. Roode served his country proudly from 1932 to 1936 and again during Word War II from 1941 to the end of the war in 1944.

Pvt. Walter E. Roode is a World War II Veteran. He joined the Army in 1932 when he was 19 years old where he became a chauffeur, driving everything from motorcycles to limousines. He served at Panama Canal, 10th Ordnance Company and was honorably discharged in 1935. The Army convinced Walter to re-enlist in 1936. He was honorably discharged that same year.

Pvt. Walter E. Roode got a job as an assembler at the Indian Motor Cycle plant in 1936 until 1941. By the end of 1941 he was drafted back into the Army for his third enlistment and assigned to the 493rd Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company. He earned an Ordinance Training Center Automotive School Division Certificate for motorcycle in 1944. He was stationed at Fort Devon, Massachusetts assigned to the training of new recruits and while performing a motorcycle stunt for some of these new recruits he ended up with several broken bones. Following rehabilitation he finally received his third honorable discharge in 1944.

Pvt. Walter E. Roode was a proud US Army veteran. Because of his love of life, his sense of humor and his love for his family, he will be missed by many.

The Patriot Guard Riders having been invited by the family and fellow PGR Member of fallen US Army - World War II Veteran, Pvt. Walter E. Roode, to stand and honor during his Memorial service at the Portola Veterans Memorial Hall, Portola, CA. . The mission involved a flag line at the Portola Veterans Memorial Hall, Portola, CA. for family and friends to pass through. On a beautiful spring day, 22 motors, two cages, and thirty (30) people showed to present Honors for this true American Hero and last of a great generation, where the PGR stood Honor Line at his final resting.

I would like to give a special thanks to Reno Nevada PGR Dean Shuff and his and his contingent; Rich from Chico, Reno American Legion Riders, and the Northern Nevada Vietnam Veterans Association who traveled to assist the Susanville PGR stand Honor Line with American Fags during this Mission. In addition I would like to thank Curt McBride, Patriot Guard Rider who is Pvt Walter Roode’s grandson, for his grandfather’s service to our country and his service to our Nations Veterans by being a PGR member.

Lastly, but not the least, I am thankful to US Army - World War II Veteran, Pvt. Walter E. Roode, an American Hero and last of a great generation, and his family.
