US Navy - World War II Veteran – Fireman 2nd Class Neal M. Beckett - Susanville, CA
The Patriot Guard Riders having been invited by the family of fallen US Navy WWII Veteran, Fireman 2nd Class Neal M. Beckett, to stand and honor during his interment service at the Lassen Cemetery, Susanville, CA. The mission involved a flag line at the Lassen Cemetery in Susanville, CA. for family and friends to pass through. On a clear winter day, 19 PGR members showed to present Honors for this true American Hero and last of a great generation, where the PGR stood Honor line at his final resting.
Fireman 2nd Class Neal M. Beckett served his country proudly from 21 Aug 1945 to 9 Aug 1946. Fireman 2nd Class Neal M. Beckett served during World War II on the following Naval ships : USS Quail – USS Monadnock – USS LST 752 – USS LST 309 and the USS Neshoba as a Fireman 2nd Class in numerous campaigns in the South Pacific Theater. Fireman 2nd Class Neal M. Beckett was decorated with the – Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal – Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Fireman 2nd Class Neal M. Beckett was rancher in the Redding area after his service in the US Navy and worked for the State of California as a lumber inspector. He was a proud US Navy veteran who retired in the Susanville area. Because of his love of life, his sense of humor and his love for his family, he will be missed by many.
I would like to especially thank Nevada PGR Ride Captain Dean Shuff and his five members, who drove up from Reno, NV to honor this true American Hero. In addition to our Patriot Guard Riders we had a great representation of many groups on this Mission. They include:
U. S. Army Honor Guard
Patriot Guard Riders
American Legion
Marine Corps League
Lastly, but not the least, I am thankful to Fireman 2nd Class Neal M. Beckett, US Navy WWII Veteran, an American Hero and last of a great generation, and his family. Your watch has been stood, your duty to protect this nation is complete, and you’ve earned the right to be called a true American Hero. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Rest in Peace, your Mission is complete.
Respectfully,
RC - Rick "Taildragger" Schultz
