Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo - US Navy WWII Veteran, Susanville, CA
The Patriot Guard Riders having been invited by the family of fallen US Navy Veteran, Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo, to stand and honor during his Interment Service at the Diamond Crest Cemetery, Susanville, CA. 96130. Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo served his country proudly from 23 Oct 1944 to 21 Jun 1946.
Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo entered the US Navy and served aboard the USS Carroll - DE71, a Cannon Class Destroyer Escort. The USS Carroll was commissioned on 24 Oct 1943 and decommissioned on 19 Jun 1946, approximately 2 days prior to Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo discharging from the US Navy. Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo received the following medals and Awards: Navy Asiatic Pacific Medal - American Pacific Victory Medal - National Defense Service Medal.
Upon his Honorable discharge from the US Navy, Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo returned home to Lassen County where he went to work at his family ranch. Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo was a proud WWII US Navy Veteran. Because of his love of life, his sense of humor and his love for his family, he will be missed by many.
On an overcast, raining, winter day, a total of 11 PGR members, met at Diamond Crest where all were present to show Honors to Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo and his family at his Interment Service.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the following people for their assistance and participation in this Mission :
Nevada Assist State Captain Dean Shuff and Ride Captain Bill Drummond who braved the winter weather and rode up from Reno, NV to assist the Susanville PGR stand Honor Line with American Flags during this Mission.
In addition to our Patriot Guard Riders we had a great representation of many groups on this Mission. They include :

Lastly, but not the least, I am thankful to US Navy - WWII Veteran Seaman Gilbert Robert Azevedo, an American Hero and his family. Your watch has been stood, your duty to protect this nation is complete, and you’ve earned the right to be called a true American Hero. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Rest in Peace my friend, your Mission is complete.
