US Army – Iraq War Veteran – Spc Tyler L, Abbott - Westwood, CA

The Patriot Guard Riders having been invited by the family of fallen US Army – Iraq War Veteran, Spc Tyler L Abbott, to stand and honor during his Escort from Sacramento Airport to Fehrman’s Mortuary in Quincy, CA on Saturday 18 August 2012. 21 PGR (17 bikes/trikes and 4 cages), including two new members on their first ride, assembled at American Airlines Cargo Terminal, SMF, to honor Spc Tyler Abbott, U.S. Army, 38th Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Spc Abbott served a combat tour in Iraq prior to his stationing at Fort Hood.

PGR stood flag lines as the U.S. Army Honor Guard transferred Sergeant Abbott to his coach. After the transfer, Sergeant Abbott was escorted to Fehrman Mortuary in Quincy, CA.

The procession was led by Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department vehicles followed by the RC and two Flag Bikes in front of Sergeant Abbott’s Coach. The coach was followed by Sergeant Abbott’s family and 11 PGR bikes. Before the procession approached the Sacramento Co. line, Sacramento Sheriff’s Department personnel sped ahead, parked along-side the highway, and saluted as the procession passed. Along the way, other Sacramento Sheriff’s Department personnel had parked along the highway and also saluted as the procession passed by.

The procession continued to Oroville where the Susanville PGR, led by RC Rick “Taildragger” Schultz, took the lead in escorting Spc Abbott to Quincy. Other riders joined the procession along the route. Approximately 25-30 bikes and cages were in the procession upon its arrival in Quincy where a flag line was formed and the PGR came to “present arms” as Spc Abbott was transferred from his coach into the mortuary.

On Monday 20 August 2012 the Patriot Guard Riders escorted Spc Tyler Abbott from Fehrman’s Mortuary in Quincy to Westwood, CA for his Memorial Service at the Westwood Community Center. Thirty (30) PGR motors and two cages assembled at the Westwood Community Center to show Honors. A large group of community members showed for the Memorial Service.

Following the Memorial Service, The Patriot Guard Riders escorted Spc Tyler Abbott to his final resting at the Westwood Cemetery where on a hot, smoke filled, summer day, 32 PGR members showed to present Honors for this true American Hero at his final resting.

I would like to give a special thanks to Capital Region – Sacramento RC Bob Hill and his contingent who assisted with two other Missions pending and made our Mission on such short notice to meet Spc Tyler Abbott and his family at the Sacramento Airport then escort to Quincy, CA. For the Memorial/Interment Service on Monday, I would also like to give a special thanks to Reno Nevada PGR member Dave Kealey and his contingent and Redding R/C Jack Morris and his contingent who all braved the forest fires and smoke in our area and traveled to assist the Susanville PGR stand Honor Line with American Flags during this Mission. In addition to our Patriot Guard Riders we had a great representation of many groups on this Mission.
They include :

U. S. Army Honor Guard
U.S. Army
U.S. Air Force
U.S. Marine Corp
Patriot Guard Riders
American Legion
Marine Corps League

Lastly, but not the least, I am thankful to Spc Tyler Abbott, US Army, Iraq War Veteran, an American Hero, and his family. Your watch has been stood, your duty to protect this nation is complete, and you’ve earned the right to be called a true American Hero. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, your Mission is complete.

Respectfully,
RC - Rick "Taildragger" Schultz
