Memorial Service - MIA Return . . .
1st LT Herbert V. Young Jr., US Army Air Corp, MIA WWII Veteran, Lake Almanor, CA

1st LT Herbert V. Young, click "HERE"

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family of fallen/MIA US Army Air Corp - WWII Veteran, 1st LT Herbert V. Young Jr., to stand and honor during his return home to his Daughter in Lake Almanor, CA 96137. 1st LT Herbert V. Young Jr. served his country proudly in the US Army Air Corp as a pilot flying B-24's with the 5th AirForce - 90th Bomb Wing "Jolly Rogers" - 321st "Bombs Away" Squadron based out of Australia. Normally a Pilot, Lt Young was assigned as Co-Pilot of a B-24D Bomber ("Hot Garters") for this particular mission as his regularly assigned co-pilot was sick.

1st LT Young was supposed to be flying Stateside the next day as his tour in the Pacific was over. The target was Hansa Bay, New Guinea. Over the target, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and they crashed approx 5 miles west of Nibia. Of the twelve man crew, five crew members were known to have parachuted from the aircraft. None survived as four were caught by the Japanese and executed. The fifth crewmember was never found. In July 2014, the crash site and three of the crewmembers were located, including 1st LT Young. The rest of the crew remain MIA.

On a beautiful summers day, the Patriot Guard Riders formed a flag line for family and friends to pass through during the Memorial Service at the Main Gate of Lake Almanor Country Club, Lake Almanor, CA. 15 PGR members showed to present Honors for this true American Hero, along with the American Legion Post from Chester, CA., and numerous Allied Agencies and local residents.

In addition to our Patriot Guard Riders we had a great representation of many groups on this Mission. They include:
Patriot Guard Riders - Redding Area
American Legion
Veterans of Foreign Wars
California Highway Patrol
Chester Fire Dept
Lake Almanor Fire Peninsula Fire Dept

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank MIA US Army Air Corp - WWII Veteran, 1st LT Herbert V. Young Jr., an American Hero, and his daughter Dianna Long. 1st LT Herbert V. Young Jr., we as a Nation never forgot your status as an American Fighting man Missing In Action and are Thankful for your return. Your watch has been stood, your duty to protect this nation is complete, and you’ve earned the right to be called a true American Hero. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

We will never forget our Nations Missing In Action or Prisoners Of War!
